I am living in Hamilton Heights, north of Harlem, for the summer. On Monday night, a block from my apartment, someone was shot. This is not a rare occurance in the area, but for someone like me who grew up in a very safe neighborhood that was pretty much devoid of poor people, it's a very new and very jarring experience to come home at night and see police tape so close to my place of residence.
